Collaboration

“Play is the highest form of research”

Play

Play-based learning is becoming more popular in school settings, particularly at the elementary levels. Purposeful play is being used to help guide the learning experience through play based models. Imaginative play with others draws in use of oral/communication skills, social emotional learning, story telling, listening, simple mathematics, etc. With purposeful guidance and inspiration from teachers, meaningful learning experiences can be created.

Project Based Learning

Project Based Learning

“Project based learning is a teaching method in which students learn by actively engaging in real-world and personally meaningful projects.”
Through project based learning, students can develop necessary skills in critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, collaboration and gain deeper knowledge and understanding in content areas.

Oracy

“Oracy is to speaking what numeracy is to mathematics or literacy to reading and writing.” It is the ability to communicate or express oneself effectively using spoken language. It’s about the ability to structure your thoughts so that they make sense to others (English-Speaking Union). Oracy has no limits in its application and can be used to engage students in discussion and understanding in topics ranging from math to social studies to sciences and beyond.

Remove Boundaries

Remove Boundaries

Allow and encourage cooperation and collaboration between teachers and students, between multiple classrooms and between grade levels. Have students help the teacher set classroom rules and expectations for collaboration. Allow projects, activities or group discussions between two or more classes on the same grade level or across grade levels. Create a student school improvement team (a collaborative effort with students and teachers where student voices are heard and acted upon).
